Annual Leave Rules in Saudi Arabia

Legal requirements in Saudi Arabia for holidays and paid annual leave.

In Saudi Arabia, employees are entitled to a minimum of 21 days of paid annual leave after completing one year of service, as stipulated in Article 109 of the Saudi Labor Law. This entitlement increases to 30 days after five years of continuous employment with the same employer. Employees are encouraged to take their annual leave, and it cannot be waived or replaced with monetary compensation, except upon termination of employment. Employers are required to schedule leave in a manner that does not disrupt the operations of the business, but they must also respect the employee's right to take their leave.

It is important to note that employees are entitled to their full salary during their annual leave, and any unused leave can be carried over to the following year, subject to the employer's approval. Additionally, if an employee's service is terminated, they are entitled to receive compensation for any accrued but unused leave days. For more detailed information regarding employee rights and obligations in Saudi Arabia, you can refer to the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development's official website.
